The Pingtan Tourism, Culture and Sports Bureau has successively held festivals in parks, plazas, and communities all over the island.

A lion dance kicked off the Lunar New Year celebrations at Zhengrong Plaza in Pingtan, an island off East China's Fujian Province. Taiwan's minority welcome dance, guitar band performances, Hanfu (Han Chinese clothing) shows and children's dance took turns on the stage, drawing crowds.

Traditional cultural exhibitions such as tea-making ceremonies, Fujian Opera, Shaoxing Opera, and Ciming Opera raised the festive mood. Cheongsam and Hanfu fans wandered around the bustling square as if they were traveling back in time.

In addition, there were lantern puzzles to keep visitors entertained. Everyone was really into the game and enjoying themselves. Waves of laughter and happy voices filled the air.

"The performances were a combination of traditional and modern elements, with a strong festive atmosphere," said Chen Yuan, a staff member of the tourism culture service center in Pingtan.

On January 27, to express good wishes for the New Year, compatriots across the Straits joined in a poetry recital.

Yu Xiaoyan, vice president of the Pingtan Writers' Association, said: "We hope to enrich the spiritual and cultural life through such a platform and make the people feel the charm of poetry.

Pingtan International Performing Arts Center held a golden oldie concert on January 28. Golden oldies paired with popular TV dramas once gain came on the big screen, reliving many fond memories of the yesteryear.

It’s reported that Pingtan International Performing Arts Center will increase its affordable performance from January 29 to February 4.
